Conference Travel Information

Arriving in Portugal

By Flight
The easiest way to reach Portugal is by air, with Lisbon Airport (LIS) serving as a well-connected gateway to most major cities worldwide. For detailed information about the airport, please visit the official website: https://www.aeroportolisboa.pt.
Alternatively, you have the option to fly either to Faro or Porto airports and take a train or a bus from there.
If there is no sustainable alternative to flying, check out Google Flights, which indicates routes and airlines that cause lower emissions and compensate for the emissions caused at the airline’s websites or special websites such as Atmosfair.
TAP Air Portugal is the national carrier, offering flights from various destinations: https://www.flytap.com/.
Special Lufthansa Group airlines fares for flights to Lisbon.

By Train or Bus
You can also reach Portugal by train or bus. The primary international rail connections to Portugal are from Spain and France. First, you may choose to take train connections to Bordeaux or Madrid. From there, train connections are no longer the best option, but take busses instead for example a Flix bus from Bordeaux to Lisbon (the fastest takes 14 hours) or a GIPSYY bus from Madrid to Cascais (the fastest takes 9 hours). Also, check www.cp.pt and international railway websites such as Omio.
Sustainable Travel Awards
This year, delegates can apply to receive one out of three Sustainable Travel Awards. Delegates are eligible, if they role model ways in which they reduced their travel footprint at least for parts of their journey to and from Cascais. The monetary incentive of 100 Euro for each award can be used freely, e.g. for extra accommodation costs along the way.
Please apply until 19 August 2024 here: https://tinyurl.com/EHPS-SustainableTravelAward
